I've Got a Trickster On My Hands

I was getting the kids a drink and Emilia was "helping."

Emilia: I want the Goofy cup.

Me: We don't have a Goofy cup.

Emilia: But I want the Goofy cup.

Me: Nope, you're getting blue.

(I get the drinks and hand her the cup. She looks at it, slightly disappointed)

Emilia: I wanted the Goofy cup.

Me: We don't have a Goofy cup.

Emilia: Sure we do. (pointing in the cabinet) Look--it's right there.

Silly, trusting mom that I am, I look in the cabinet.

Emilia laughs and shouts out,

"I GOTCHA, MOM!"

Then she walks away grinning like a fool, completely pleased with herself for having tricked her mom.

Reason 824

Why I Love Being a Parent:

824. In the bubble bath last night, Emilia filled a cup with water and bubbles and used a paint brush to paint her toes and Audra's toes "for Santa." Then she looked at me, scrunched up her nose, laughed and said, "I'm just kidding!" But I LOVED how she had one foot propped on top of the other to keep her toes above water while she was painting!

825. After painting, Emilia filled the cup with water and piled lots of bubbles on top and said, "Look! I made a cupcake for Miss Audra!" (I had to stop her from feeding the "cupcake" to Audra with the paintbrush.)

826. Since she couldn't feed Audra the bubbles, she used them to paint a mustache on her.

827. Audra used her teaspoon to feed Emilia some of the bathwater (for pretend) and she thought that was just sooooooooo funny!

828. Emilia helped me keep Audra warm by putting water on her back with our hands.

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas...

and this year we actually had one! It was so exciting!

So many of us were sick, though, so we just had fun looking at it from the coziness of our house. (Life just doesn't always work out like you want it to, you know?)

It's been so busy around here lately. So much so that I'm extremely thankful that when designing humans God went with the "head attached" option instead of the "removeable head" choice. I'd have been in major trouble otherwise!

December started off relatively normal and then escalated into craziness. The boys had basketball and we were truckin' along doing school, as usual. And then Renee came for a visit and to find me a dress to wear in her wedding. And then I found out that I had this mass growing in my shoulder that I needed to have an MRI of and turned out I needed to have surgery to have that removed. But not until I had my abcess tooth fixed because that could have caused major problems after surgery. And all of this was scheduled around driving to Texas to celebrate my sister-in-law, Candida's 40th birthday and John's birthday (or ON his birthday) and Christmas. But all the fun started with the root canal I got at 8 AM the morning we left for Texas. 'Cause you know that's they way everyone wants to start a 15 hour car ride...with a root canal.

This was the night on the road on the way down there. The kids were playing "The Polar Express" on the luggage cart.

Audra was busy chowing down the peas. Nobody really fought her for those.

While we were there the kids went swimming in the hot tub. It's Texas...you can do things like that in the middle of December. My kids thought it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Of course, Uncle Matt's invitation to come back in the summer and swim in the big pool was pretty awesome, too. "Cause we could, like, SWIM. ALL. DAY."

Audra was quite content to watch all of the going's on from inside the house. I tried sticking her in the hot tub and she puckered up and cried. Note to self: Never forget the first rule of parenting: Don't mess with a happy baby!

It only hurt me a little to make Candida an LSU birthday cake. It did feel like a bit of a betrayal, what with orange blood runnin' through my veins and all, but these are the sacrifices we make for family :) It was my second try at fondant, first time with gumpaste. The fondant turned out MUCH better this time and I've got some ideas to make the gumpaste work better for me next time, too. I love making stuff like that. It was a lot of fun...but messy!!

One day we all trekked to the wild and crazy mall to take the kids to the Build-a-Bear Workshop. Brooke, Ryan, Timothy, Josiah, Emilia and Audra all made themselves a new little friend.

Josiah's is camo and has a Darth Vader costume. He named him "Darth Bear" and the two have already had many adventures together. Emilia's is tye-dyed looking and is named "Aria" (Emilia's version of Ariel) and Audra's is a bunny named bunny hop. Audra loves her bunny hop. Bunny hop was stuffed by Josiah and her heart was wished on by Emilia. She is definitely a new favorite friend.

These are John's birthday cupcakes.

I know, they pale in comparison to Candida's cake, but does it help to know that I had surgery the morning of John's birthday? Does that get me any slack? Yeah, I still feel kinda bad that his birthday was spent playing nurse-maid to me, but sometimes that's just the way things go and we try to make the best out of it. For instance, my having surgery on his birthday saved us from having to pay our deductable again next year (it had already been paid this year when I had Audra). See? Silver linings everywhere. Like on John's head. He's streaked with silver, that old man. :)

Happy Birthday, John. I love you. I'm thankful for everything you do for all of us. And next year I'll make you a real cake.

The kids and I made cake balls and cake pops on Christmas Eve. They turned out so cute! I'm not sure how Santa felt about eating a reindeer, but he managed to choke a couple down while he was stopped here. Guess they weren't too bad :)

John and Audra supervised the whole operation...

They did good, too, because look how adorable these are:

On Christmas Day I took over 60 pictures to try and get a good one of all the kids in front of the tree. This is the best I got.

This one is a couple of pictures photoshopped together. Thank goodness for photoshop! (or GIMP, as the case may be)

And that's where I'm going to stop for tonight. The screen is getting fuzzy and I am getting tired (better that than the other way around, huh?...yup. I need sleep) So, until next time--Happy New Year to you all!
